THE PLAY ANALYZER

Cricket video analysis for bowling actions and batting technique.

Film from the side at the crease, step to front-foot contact, and show a bowler the elbow and shoulder angles rather than asking them to feel the difference.

What the readings tell you in cricket

33 body landmarks tracked in your browser, with joint angles measured in degrees on every frame. Motion phase and footwork readings are quick landmarks, not scored judgments — the coaching is still yours.

Bowling arm elbow angle

The elbow is measured in degrees on every frame through the delivery stride. For coaching a repeatable action this is the single most useful number on the page.

Shoulder alignment through the delivery

Both shoulders are tracked, which shows the mixed action — the bowler whose shoulders and hips fight each other — far more clearly than real-time viewing does.

Front knee at landing

Knee angle at front-foot contact separates the bowler who braces from the one who collapses through the front leg, and it is visible in a single frame.

Stance and balance for batting

Stance width and balance are read from ankle and hip position — a quick landmark for a batter's base at trigger movement, not a scored judgment.

Moments coaches stop the tape on

  • 01Bowling: load-up, back-foot contact, front-foot contact and release
  • 02The braced front leg, or the lack of one
  • 03Batting: trigger movement and the base it leaves you in
  • 04Head position over the front foot at the moment of contact
  • 05Fielding: the pick-up and throw as one continuous action

Filming at the crease

  • Side-on, square to the crease, at roughly hip height is the angle that shows a bowling action honestly. Behind the arm looks dramatic and hides the shoulder line.
  • Stand far enough back that the whole delivery stride fits — if the front foot leaves the frame at landing you lose the frame that matters most.
  • Film from the same mark every session. Anchored comparison only works if the camera position is repeatable.
  • Nets are usually darker than they look on the eye. Film with the light behind you, not behind the bowler.
Full guide to filming footage

Cricket questions, answered.

Does this measure elbow extension for a suspect action?

It measures and displays elbow angle per frame, which is useful for coaching a repeatable action. It is not an ICC-accredited biomechanical assessment, and should not be used in place of one for a formal review.

Can I use it for batting as well as bowling?

Yes. Pose tracking, joint angles and stance/balance read the same for a batter. Motion-phase detection is tuned to swing and strike motions, which covers the shot itself.

Does it work on net footage shot through the netting?

Usually, but netting across the body degrades tracking. Film from the open side or through a gap where you can — it makes a visible difference to how cleanly the landmarks sit.

It works the same way for every sport
