THE PLAY ANALYZER

Golf swing analysis, measured rather than described.

Take down-the-line and face-on footage on a phone, step to the frame that matters, and put a number on the lead arm instead of saying it looked bent.

What the readings tell you in golf

33 body landmarks tracked in your browser, with joint angles measured in degrees on every frame. Motion phase and footwork readings are quick landmarks, not scored judgments — the coaching is still yours.

Lead arm angle at the top

The elbow angle is measured on every frame, so the familiar argument about whether the lead arm folded at the top becomes a reading you can both see rather than a matter of opinion.

Shoulder turn through the backswing

Both shoulders are tracked in degrees across the swing, which is the clearest way to show a player who thinks they are turning that they are lifting instead.

Knee flexion and lower-body stability

Knee angles through transition show the player who stands up out of the shot before impact — usually visible several frames earlier than the miss itself.

Stance and balance at address

Stance width and centre of balance are read from ankle and hip position. A quick landmark for setup consistency between sessions, not a scored judgment.

Moments coaches stop the tape on

  • 01Address: stance width, posture and balance before anything moves
  • 02Takeaway: the first two feet, where most faults are already set
  • 03Top of the backswing: lead arm, shoulder turn and hip resistance
  • 04Transition: the frame the lower body starts back before the hands
  • 05Impact and release: knee extension and whether the player stood up

Filming a swing the tracking can read

  • Two angles beat one: down-the-line from behind the hands, and face-on square to the target line. Film the same swing from both and tag them to the same player.
  • Put the camera at hand height for down-the-line. Phone-on-the-ground footage distorts the shaft plane badly.
  • Use your phone's slow-motion mode if it has one. More frames through impact means more frames to step through.
  • Keep the clubhead in frame at the top. If it leaves the shot you lose the frames where the swing is decided.

Golf questions, answered.

Can I compare a swing to one from last month?

Yes — that is what Compare is for. Put the two clips side by side, anchor each at the same point in the swing, link them, and they play as one. It is the clearest way to show a player that a change actually took.

Does it measure club path or face angle?

No. It tracks the body, not the club — 33 body landmarks, joint angles in degrees, stance and balance. For club and ball data you would still want a launch monitor; this covers what the body did.

Does it work indoors in a simulator bay?

Yes, as long as the whole body including the feet is lit and in frame. Pose tracking needs to see the ankles, and simulator bays often light the ball rather than the player.
